VALERIE JEROME

Valerie Jerome is a trailblazing Canadian athlete, educator, and advocate who has made significant contributions to both track and field and social justice. Born into a family of remarkable athletes, she followed in the footsteps of her older brother, Harry Jerome, competing internationally as a sprinter for Canada. She represented the country at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, the British Empire and Commonwealth Games, and the Pan American Games, earning multiple national titles in sprint events.

Beyond her achievements on the track, Valerie has been a lifelong advocate for social justice and education. She has worked tirelessly to address issues of racial inequality, environmental sustainability, and youth empowerment. She is an accomplished public speaker, often sharing her experiences in sport and activism to inspire future generations.

Valerie’s legacy is honored through her ongoing efforts in education and community engagement. She remains deeply involved in promoting diversity and inclusion in sport, and her impact is recognized at events like the Harry Jerome International Track Classic, which celebrates the athletic excellence and resilience of both her and her brother. Through her work in Vancouver and beyond, she continues to be a powerful voice for change and equality.
