Vancouver, BC – September 25, 2026 – RUNVAN is excited to announce the return of the Great Trek, the grand finale of the RUNVAN Race Series, on Saturday, October 24, 2026. More than 4,500 participants will take to scenic routes through the University of British Columbia campus and along SW Marine Drive for a memorable jaunt through Musqueam Territory.

The Great Trek features a Half Marathon, 10KM, 5KM, UBC Relay and RUNVAN Hat-Trick, which challenges runners to complete all three distances for a total of 36.1KM. It has become a favourite way for Vancouver’s running community to celebrate the end of the racing season.

Adding to the excitement, the Great Trek will award prizes to runners who set a new course record in any race distance.

The Great Trek course will come alive with live music performed by UBC student groups along key points, adding fun and energy to the race day atmosphere. The UBC Run Club will host a cheer-sign-making tent, and the Calendar UBC will host a pancake breakfast at the Finish Line. The event will also feature the Fastest Varsity Team Challenge, adding some friendly competition among university runners.

A Celebration of Musqueam Territory and UBC

The Great Trek takes place on Musqueam Territory, with RUNVAN and UBC recognizing the history and significance of the land on which the event takes place.
The Great Trek medal features a secondary logo by Musqueam artist Darryl Blyth, alongside design elements celebrating the UBC campus and the event’s connection to the university community.

Supporting BC Children’s Hospital Foundation

Participants may support BC Children’s Hospital Foundation through fundraising and donations, continuing the event’s commitment to giving back to the community.

“We’re excited to bring the Great Trek back to UBC and close out another year of the RUNVAN Race Series with our running community,” says Race Director Eric Chéné. “It’s a special event because it brings together competitive runners, families, students, volunteers and supporters for one final celebration of the season. We’re grateful to our partners, volunteers and the UBC and Musqueam communities for helping make the Great Trek such a unique Vancouver running experience.”
