Close to 2000 spectators, officials and athletes from 35 nations gathered to compete at the newly laid track at Burnaby’s Swangard Stadium for the Jerome Classic, the World Athletics Continental Tour- Silver meet. In spite of 14 C degrees and swirling headwinds, Saturday was an epic night at the Jerome Classic.
Kieran Lumb of Vancouver (1500m in 3:34.53),
Thomas Fafard of Quebec City (3000m in 7:41.20),
Gabriela DeBues-Stafford (5000m in 15:17.48).
Alia Armstrong of the USA won the 100m hurdles in 12.83 over Australia’s Celeste Mucci by 0.07 seconds.
Liz Gleadle of Vancouver improved her seasonal best by almost 6m winning the javelin competition in 61.32m.
Nelson BC’s Matti Erickson won the 800m in 1:46.43 over a strong international field.
Toronto’s Zoe Sherar won the 200m in 23.14 just 0.06 over team mate, Jacqueline Madogo.
Australia’s Hayley Kitching edged ahead of Toronto’ s Lucia Stafford in the 800m 2:01.95 to 2:01.99.
New Zealand’s Maia Ramsden won the 1500m in 4:05.93 with Poland’s Claudia Kazimierska second in 4:06.24
Danniel Thomas-Dodd of Jamaica prevailed over Canada’s Sarah Milton in the shot put by 12cm with her throw of 19.00m
