TT.EblastJoin in on the excitement Thanksgiving Weekend with additional races and runner benefits

Vancouver, BC – May 22, 2015 – New runner perks, race additions and programs await the 18th annual Granville Island Turkey Trot participants. Registration is now open for the 2015 event held on Thanksgiving Monday, October 12, 2015, at Performance Works on Granville Island.

In 2014, the Vancouver International Marathon Society (Society), a not-for-profit –that has been organizing the Vancouver Marathon since 1987 – announced their acquisition of two additional events, the Granville Island Turkey Trot in October, and the UBC Fall Classic in November.

“As a society, we have added these two exciting events to our running series to build runner engagement and help keep athletes running all year long,” says Charlene Krepiakevich, Executive Director of the Vancouver International Marathon Society.

The Granville Island Turkey Trot is not your average run – it is an experience. The annual event is known for its superior level of organization, runner perks, volunteer involvement and gourmet holiday-themed food, a unique addition that many races do not offer.

The Turkey Trot is for runners of all fitness levels. Participants are encouraged to walk, run or stroll the 10KM course along the Seawall.

This season, to build on the excitement of event weekend, a new Turkey Trot Preschooler Dash and Turkey Trot Kids Fun Run on Sunday October 11, 2015 will take place – one day before the Turkey Trot 10KM and Trot Tot.

The Preschool Dash and Turkey Trot Kids Fun Run are designed to inspire preschoolers and kids to get moving, make healthy choices, feel confident, and have fun.

Toddlers ages four and under are eligible for the Preschooler Dash, and kids five to twelve are eligible for the Kids Fun Run. The races held on Granville Island add an exciting new element to the event by enhancing the family-friendly atmosphere of the weekend.

In addition to the new races, the Society has been working with stakeholders to add more value for runners as well as improve the overall race experience. Runners who complete all three events organized by The Vancouver International Marathon Society will be rewarded with a special hat-trick commemorative item.

“This new initiative is offered to runners who complete a race from each of our three events and is a unique way to reward and thank them for their enthusiasm and commitment to the Society,” says Charlene Krepiakevich.

Registration for the Granville Island Turkey Trot is now open. The UBC Fall Classic will open race registration in June, 2015 and the BMO Vancouver Marathon opens registration in September, 2015.
