First free event kicks off November 25th with SportMedBC and BMW

Vancouver, BC – November 25th, 2015 – A new RUNVAN® Speaker Series is set to launch Wednesday, November 25th, helping runners prepare and connect with one another on route to the 2016 BMO Vancouver Marathon.

Attendees will learn from SportMedBC experts, and also receive door prize give-aways. The first 50 people to claim a seat at The BMW Store this Wednesday, once doors open at 5:30pm for the kick-off event, will actually receive a free Saucony technical shirt.

“We encourage you to join in and use this opportunity to learn more about nutrition and running regardless of your fitness level,” says Charlene Krepiakevich, Executive Director of the non-profit Vancouver International Marathon Society that will execute the event in coordination with SportMedBC and BMW.

“As a Society, we want to give back to the community and encourage healthy, active lifestyles,” adds Krepiakevich. “This is a great opportunity to engage with our runners, and for them to connect with one another while learning from industry experts.”

The first of four free talks will be on “Nutrition – Training for a Marathon” presented by Cristina Sutter, a leading sport dietitian in Vancouver with over 10 years of experience providing nutrition counselling to athletes. Her clients include the Vancouver Canucks, Canada’s Olympic athletes, SwimBC and recreational athletes.

Dates and locations of the RUNVAN® Speaker Series are as follows:

· November 25th – The BMW Store, 2040 Burrard Street, Vancouver
· January 20th – Brian Jessel BMW, 2311 Boundary Road, Burnaby
· March 30th – Auto West BMW, 10780 Cambie Street, Richmond
· April TBD – Health, Sports & Lifestyle Expo, 1055 Canada Pl, Vancouver

Doors will open for the first three events at 5:30pm, with presentations from 6:00-6:30pm. Seats will be made available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The fourth and final 2016 Speaker Series session will be presented during the free Health, Sport & Lifestyle Expo held on race weekend at the waterfront Vancouver Convention Centre West.

The RUNVAN® Speaker Series is another example of how the Vancouver International Marathon Society is engaged locally. The non-profit also organizes free weekly runs every Thursday at 6:30am kicking off from the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel.

All of these festivities will help build up to the 2016 BMO Vancouver Marathon which will celebrate its 45th Anniversary on May 1th, 2016, with races for everyone, including a Kids Run, 2.5KM Walk, 8KM race, Half Marathon, Marathon Relay and Vancouver’s only marathon.
